Moodseat ("we", "us", "the app") is a movie discovery app that helps you choose what to watch by mood. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
In short: Moodseat does not require an account. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, or precise location. The app stores the moods you pick, the votes you cast, and any taglines you post, and it uses an anonymous device identifier to make features like live voting work.
1. Information we collect
Anonymous identifier. When the app starts, it signs in anonymously to Google Firebase Authentication. This creates a random app-scoped ID (a Firebase user ID and installation ID). It is not linked to your name, email, or any account, and it is not used to track you across other apps.
Your activity in the app. The moods you select, the films you vote for in Versus, the taglines you post, and the titles you mark as watched. Your personal watchlist stays on your device and is not uploaded.
Basic service data. To deliver movie information, the app sends queries (for example, a mood or a film ID) to The Movie Database (TMDB) through our own server. These queries do not include personal information. Standard server logs (such as IP address and request time) may be processed transiently for security and reliability.
2. Information we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or postal address.
We do not request or collect precise location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or files.
We do not display third-party advertising in this version of the app, and we do not use an advertising identifier for advertising.
3. How we use information
To provide the core features: mood-based recommendations, live Versus voting, and community taglines.
To keep the service working and secure (for example, preventing abuse of the voting feature).
To understand, in aggregate, which features are used so we can improve the app.
4. Community content and moderation
Versus lets you post a one-line tagline that other players can read and cheer. This is user-generated content and we ask everyone to keep it civil:
Block. Long-press any tagline and choose "Block this tagline" to hide it from your feed. Blocked taglines stay hidden on your device.
Report. Long-press any tagline and choose "Report" to send it to us for review. Reported content is hidden from your feed immediately and is reviewed by us.
Removal. We remove taglines that break our rules, and we may remove access for people who repeatedly post abusive content.
5. Third-party services
The app relies on the following services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
The Movie Database (TMDB) — movie metadata and artwork. Movie data and images are provided by TMDB. See TMDB's privacy policy. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Google Play — app distribution and updates, governed by Google's terms and privacy policy.
6. Links to other services
The app can open external services such as JustWatch or YouTube when you tap "Where to watch" or "Watch trailer". Those services are not operated by us, and their privacy policies apply once you leave the app.
7. Data retention and deletion
Votes and taglines are kept so that live features and community content remain available. Watchlist data stays on your device and is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data. You may request deletion of content associated with your anonymous identifier at any time — see Request deletion of your data for the steps — or email us at the address below; we will remove it within 30 days.
8. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to stored data is restricted to the app's service infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to keep the data we hold to a minimum.
9. International processing
Our service infrastructure is located in the United States (Firebase Firestore, region nam5). If you use the app from another country, your information will be processed in the United States.
10. Children's privacy
Moodseat is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information to the app, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where the change is significant, note it in the app's release notes.
